The term “Good” Friday seems unusual given the sorrowful events it remembers. Yet, it is called “good” because it stands for the goodness of Jesus’ sacrifice. Believers hold that his death brought salvation to the world.

Good Friday reminds people to pause and think about their actions. It encourages them to show empathy to others. People also appreciate the power of forgiveness. It also prepares believers for Easter Sunday, which celebrates the resurrection and new beginnings.

In essence, Good Friday is not just about mourning. It is also about faith and gratitude. Additionally, it is about the promise of hope beyond hardship.

Tourist come to the bridge and buy padlocks. They write their names or initials on the padlocks. Then, they attach the lock to the railing. Finally, they throw the key into the water below. This act symbolizes their love—locked forever and never to be broken.

What makes this place even more beautiful is the sunset. As evening approaches, the sky fills with warm shades of orange, pink, and gold. The sunlight reflects off the locks, making them shine softly. The calm surroundings, merged with the colorful sky, create a peaceful and romantic atmosphere.

Many visitors choose to place their locks during this time. They enjoy both the meaning of the tradition and the beauty of nature. Some take photos, while others simply sit and watch the sun go down.

The Love Locks in Sitio Kadyukan, Barangay San Jose, Del Carmen, Siargao Islands may be simple, but they remind us that love doesn’t need to be grand. Sometimes, a small gesture in a quiet place—especially under a beautiful sunset—is enough to make it truly special.

The RIDS activity, spearheaded by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) – Province of Surigao del Norte, focused on reviewing and assessing the performance of LGUs on various local bodies, including:

* LCPC (Local Council for the Protection of Children)

The training allowed participants to revisit and deepen their understanding of key GAD concepts and the existing legal frameworks that guide gender mainstreaming.

They also engaged in a hands-on workshop to assess their GAD Plan and Budget for FY 2025 and FY 2026, using parameters that evaluated the responsiveness and effectiveness of their PPAs.
